Flowers

Enjoy some of God’s creation through looking at some of these flowers that we have in the village.

There are several different colours of this flower, which I think might be a ‘New Guinea Impatiens’, but I don’t know for sure. So here are a few of the different varieties I’ve seen.

Flowers of Scotland

As I travelled through Scotland, I really enjoyed seeing the flowers that were in bloom at the time and took the occasional photo. Here are some of them for you to enjoy too.

This is a rhododendron bush. It reminded me of Bougainvillea plants. The flower is completely different really, but when you see it from a distance, and while flying past it in a bus, it looks a bit like a Bougainvillea, so that made me happy because Bougainvillea plants remind me of Bougainville as they grow well there (although the plant originated in South America).

Port Moresby adventures – Botanical Gardens

On our way to Buka we had to stay at Port Moresby for two nights, so we had a whole day to kill there and we decided to go and see a bit of the place, since there was three of us single ladies and we’d all only been in Moresby by ourselves previously and it’s not wise for single women to go round Moresby alone. We started by taking a PMV to the botanical gardens. It was a bit of a scary ride for me as the sliding door of the bus was open the whole trip and I was sitting opposite it. I was worried that if we turned too sharply, I would fall out the door!

The botanical garden was PNG style, not really classy, as evidenced by the dirt and leaves on the top of the shadecloth in the picture below.

However there were lots of nice plants and flowers, especially orchids. We were shown around by one of the security staff there, and we were even taken through to sections that said ‘No entry – staff only’. There were also animals in enclosures there too, including the bird of paradise, which is often hard to see in the wild. Some of the other animals/birds we saw were: cuscus, crocodile, cassowary, wallaby, hornbill, tree kangaroo

PNG is a haven for flowers, here is a selection of Hibiscus. A keen gardener could spend a lifetime photographing flowers up here.

Taupota visit

My visit to the Taupota area was good. Nothing spectacular happened, but there was a burial going on, however we missed most of it unfortunately.

It is mango season and again, mangos drop off the tree occasionally and when you hear it snap a start to fall, you worry about the fact that you are sitting under the tree! One time I fetched one that fell and enjoyed eating it, although it was a little bruised.

The frangipanis and hibiscus were in bloom and looking great. There were so many different colours of hibiscus and they were really pretty.
